A farmer on an outlying island told the BBC he had lost more than 400 animals after eight giant wind turbines were installed close to his grazing land.

The Ministry of Agriculture says it suspects that noise may have caused the goats' demise through lack of sleep.

The detailed report can be found at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/8060969.stm

Perhaps we should stop calling these mass gathering of turbines "farms"! Suggestions welcome for a new collective noun

I see in today's Telegraph (May 27) that turbine noise can affect humans. The owner of a £20,000 wind turbine near Abingdon in Oxfordshire had planning permission for his 40ft device but he now faces a £5000 fine if he does not switch it off because neighbours complained about the noise. It has already cost him more than £5000 in legal fees.
