Patent sails, fan and ogee cap points to east midlands, interesting that the house is red brick and the tower grey (render?)
With the family connection possibly a Northants mill and looking in Trevor Stainwrights book, there is only one that fit the general description at werrington, the majority of northants towers having stagered window openings. Its is more than likely it's a lincs, notts or yorks mill but theres to many to look up!

Hi Andrew.
I agree that the cap/tower/fantail arrangement are definitely pointing towards Lincs /Nottinghamshire (Possibly Yorkshire)
Having looked at a few pictures in the archive it looks very similar to Carlton On Trent (Notts)taking the tower height and batter and window config. into account. It even has a similar barn in front of it! A look at Misterton (Notts)shows what the complete mill would have looked like. Note the high fantail arrangement.

Hi Andrew,
I agree that this is a "Lincolnshire style" mill (which covers most of the East Midlands and Yorkshire)due to the Ogee cap, high fantail and what seems to be a lack of stocks on the double sided patent sails.

I find a striking resemblence to Orston mill, Nottinghamshire although the tower is bare unlike the one in the painting.

Cleveland mill East Markham, Nottinghamshire is also a similar mill with a tarred tower (tarred towers can appear grey with age).

The chimneys on the buildings seem quite distinctive, so they may be worth remembering when looking for a match.
