Jumping mill man

Tom Hine has been on the case again and has drawn my attention to an unusual postcard.

Poster Image

Sent in 1985, I’m particularly taken with this image on the front of the postcard. It’s refreshing to see a contrasting and more modern image incorporating a mill – in this case Brill – in addition to the more traditional postcards in our vast collection.

What’s more, it was sent by the late Helen Major, wife of Ken Major who was a previous Trustee here at the Archive. Helen regularly volunteered here, particularly to help with proofreading, and it hasn’t escaped our notice that on the postcard she mentions proofreading the TIMS Papers and how in spite of her grammatical abilities, spelling the word “siege” still sent her ‘screaming to the “Concise Oxford”‘!
